Pro-Educação / Basic and Vocational Education and Training

Title of the Project:

Pro-Educação / Basic and Vocational Education and Training

Country:

Germany

Geographical presence:

Mozambique

Status of the project:
start date, duration:

05/2019-06/2022

Project website:

www.giz.de/de/weltweit/20451.html

Geographical impact of project:

national

Funds available for the project:

2 Mio €

Implementation level:

in support of low income and developing countries

Description of the project:

The 2019 GSMA Global Gender Gap Report indicated that the quantitative gap between female and male mobile phone owners in Mozambique is the third-largest in the world. Even though mobile phone ownership and internet use have increased among Mozambican women over the last years, there are still persistent gender gaps in terms of digital skills as well as access to digital devices and the Internet. If these inequalities are not addressed, they are likely to become more deeply entrenched and to compound the risk of Mozambican girls and women being left behind in the digital transformation. At the same time, graduates from TVET schools in Mozambique face severe challenges to find employment after graduating. To tackle these inequalities and to promote employability for young girls and women, #eskills4girls in the framework of Pro-Educação aims to improve the job perspectives of girls and women through access and use of ICT. To reach this objective, the project cooperates with its partners which comprise formal and non-formal TVET institutions and private sector companies in the four provinces Maputo, Inhambane, Sofala und Nampula.

Area of focus of the project:

  • Development and implementation of competency-based basic ICT training courses especially for girls and women
  • Capacity development of formal and non-formal TVET institutions and their trainers to prepare for the implementation of ICT courses
  • Promote employment opportunities through courses on basic employability skills and entrepreneurship trainings using ICT
  • Integration of ICT programs and tools into already existing TVET courses according to labor market demand.

By the end of the project, estimated 600 girls and women will have completed the courses and thereby improved their employment opportunities.
