Description of the project:
Promoting the active role of women in STEM fields contributes to achieving economic growth as well as diminishing gender disparity in economic status. In this light, G7 leaders launched Women’s Initiative in Developing STEM Career (WINDS) at the G7 Ise-Shima Summit to enhance global movement of promoting the active role of women in STEM fields by offering the positive vision of women’s STEM careers and fostering an enabling environment for promoting such careers in the G7 countries and around the world. To proactively realise the leaders’ commitment to WINDS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan appointed 3 women as Japan’s WINDS ambassadors. WINDS ambassadors attend various conferences and events to promote women’s advancement in STEM fields.
Area of focus of the project:
- increasing participation of girls in ICT studies (mentoring programmes, career counseling)
- information and awareness-raising campaigns
- increasing the recruitment, retention and promotion of women in the ICT sector
